- GMO Internet Inc.
Tokyo – October 10, 2007 -- GMO Internet official ICANN(*1) domain registrar, onamae.com today begins accepting priority registrations of the new .asia domain from trademark holders and registered organizations.
The .asia Domain
The .asia domain is a new sponsored top level domain (sTLD*2) for the Asia Pacific area. The word Asia as a domain is a smart choice for businesses in the Asia Pacific region and companies with plans to enter the Asia Pacific market. Businesses can use the name to effectively build business value and brand value throughout the region. Any individual or company (organization etc.) located in the area can register a .asia domain.
About Pre-Registration of .asia Domains for Trademark Holders and Registered Entity Names
The .asia domain registration application “sunrise period”(*3) is divided into three phases; Sunrise 1 – for government institutions, Sunrise 2 – for trademark holders and registered organizations, and Sunrise 3 – registered juristic entities, companies, organizations, societies, etc. The Sunrise 2 phase has been further divided into 2.a,2.b and 2.c.
In the sunrise period it is envisaged that all domain names can be registered at one time. In the case that there are multiple applications for one name, the successful application shall be decided in an auction(*4) at the end of the period. When a registration is accepted in an earlier phase no applications can be accepted in subsequent phases.
