Give Children a Chance to Read a Good Book – Book Week

Tokyo – October 23, 2007 – GMO Internet Group company JWord, the company that operates the Japanese Internet search tool of the same name, announces a fundraising Book Week campaign as part of its community project Give Children the Chance to Read a Good Book. JWord Book Week will run from October 26 to November 9.

Outline of the Book Week Campaign
Give Children the Chance to Read a Good Book is a JWord fundraising initiative that donates books to elementary schools throughout Japan. The project is supported by Morning Reading Program. The second round of the project, launched June 15 this year, is underway and aims to raise one million yen through click fundraising. Once we reach our target we will be donating 200,000 yen worth of books to five elementary schools throughout Japan. (JWord and the program supporters bear all costs for the purchase of books - the user pays nothing when they click.)
In a survey conducted by the Morning Reading Program, only 19% of schools responded that they were satisfied with the resources available in their libraries. The vast majority of schools stated that they did not have enough books. (Morning Reading Program Survey, 9.28.2007)
This autumn, Book Week aims to promote awareness about the lack of books in schools, promote the Give Children a Chance to read a Good Book project and encourage children to read books.
