GlobalSign to Provide SSL Server Certificates for au Mobile Phones
Tokyo – November 28, 2007 – GMO Hosting & Security consolidated subsidiary, the digital certificate services company, GlobalSign, now offers SSL server certificates compatible with au cell phones. GMO Hosting & Security is a GMO Internet Group company.
SSL secured communication is essential when net shopping or net banking from a cellular phone for sending credit card numbers and other personal information through a web site. The SSL server certificate required for SSL communication shows that the cell phone carrier recognizes the Certificate Authority that issued the certificate is a reliable. This allows users for the first time to identify reliable server certificates in their cell phone web browsers through a root certificate in their cell phone.
KDDI has approved SSL server certificate service provider GlobalSign, and root certificates will be installed on au cell phones. This makes SSL secured communication possible on au cell phones using GlobalSign SSL server certificates.
GlobalSign SSL server certificates are now available for all three major cell phone carriers in Japan. We will continue to expand the use of SSL server certificates by increasing the range of compatible models for each carrier.
GlobalSign provides root certificates for a wide range of platforms beyond the personal computer including mobile devices.
