GlobalSign SSL Server Certificates Become Official Certificates for Mirapoint Mail Appliance Products
Tokyo – April 9, 2008 – GMO Hosting & Security consolidated subsidiary and digital certificate service provider, GlobalSign K.K. and Mirapoint Japan K.K. announce that the GlobalSign SSL server certificate has become an official certificate for mail appliance products sold by Mirapoint. At the same time the two companies announce they will work together to promote enterprise mail security. This partnership enables increased access security by making it possible to secure POP over SSL/ IMAP over SSL/SMTP TLS(*) with GlobalSign SSL server certificates, for more than 120 million mailboxes served by Mirapoint worldwide every day.
*POP over SSL／IMAP over SSL／SMTP TLS:
A protocol using SSL, widely used to encrypt HTTP communication between web server and browser, for the encryption of passwords, e-mail content, etc. between mail server and client. This protects against e-mail and password leakage and interference.
The Importance of Securing E-mail
E-mail and messaging have become indispensable business tools and mail security is now increasingly important for both internal and external communications.
However, mail security often extends no further than general anti spam and anti virus measures and there is a tendency to overlook the security of basic e-mail client to mail server communication. Mail protocols are not encrypted or secured by other means but e-mail client to mail server communication can be effectively secured by mail security technology such as and for this reason POP over SSL / IMAP over SSL/SMTP TLS.
GlobalSign SSL server certificates now provide third party certification for SSL communication between Mirapoint appliance products and mail clients using these products.

Using SSL server certificates on mail server certifies communications between the server and other parties so no company authentication is required. Low priced, fast issue domain verification type certificates are ideal. The GlobalSign Quick Authentication SSL product is a leader in the domain verification type SSL server certificate field. A range of mail server options including intranet options and wild card options are also available.
Many authentication services do not allow SSL server certificates usage on a mail server. However, at GlobalSign not only the Quick Authentication SSL product but also Business Verification SSL and all of our optional services can be used on mail servers.

Mirapoint® Message Server
The Mirapoint Message Server series is an appliance type mail server that reduces TCO while offering high reliability and easy administration. Instead of a regular OS this system features the original specialized Mirapoint Messaging Operating System (MOS). MOS has no known exploits, and unlike a regular OS does not require the administrator to spend long periods of time patching security. Mirapoint® RazorGate®
RazorGate is a mail security appliance that integrates high speed mail delivery technology (MTA) with anti-spam and anti-virus features as well as customizable policy settings. It eliminates up to 98% of external threats from spam, viruses, and hacker attacks to mail and networks. In addition to these security features, RazorGate offers essential gateway mail delivery technology, a mail delivery system that handles up to 248,000 mails an hour while running an anti-spam and anti-virus engine.
