Tokyo Metropolitan Government Adopts GMO Payment Gateway Services for Processing Online GREEN TOKYO FUND Donations
Tokyo – May 29, 2008 -- GMO Internet Group remote credit card payment processing company, GMO Payment Gateway announces its Public Sector Credit Card Payment Processing Service has today been adopted by the Tokyo government to handle credit card payments to the GREEN TOKYO FUND.
This is the same service provided to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Waterworks for accepting water utility payments by credit card.
Outline
The GREEN TOKYO FUND is a fundraising scheme designed by the Tokyo government to support the planting and growing of greenery in Tokyo. Funds raised are allocated to one of four greening projects; Umi-no-Mori (The Sea Forest), planting roadside trees, planting lawns in schoolyards, and planting trees that produce less pollen. The project aims to raise 800 million yen over three years (by 2010). The total raised in 2007 was 108,000,272 yen.
Beginning today, in addition to accepting GREEN TOKYO FUND contributions by post office transfer, the fund will accept contributions over the Internet by credit card. This makes it possible for contributors to go online and make a donation anytime from anywhere.
The GMO-PG Public Sector Credit Card Payment Processing ASP service is the payment processing system that supports credit card payments to both the GREEN TOKYO FUND and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Waterworks.
GMO-PG Public Sector Credit Card Payment Processing Service
The GMO-PG Public Sector Credit Card Payment Processing Service has been adopted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Waterworks, the Social Insurance Agency and municipal governments in Osaka prefecture, Fujisawa city, Katsushika ward, and Owase city.
The service centralizes tasks like card validity checks, claims, and updating of card information and because it is provided as an ASP service it can be implemented in a short period of time. We also provide an online application function that accepts 3-D secure certificates.
All GMO-PG offices have acquired the ISMS ISO 27001 Certification Standards certificate of compliance. These are global independent certification standards for information security management that ensure customers can feel safe using our services.
Outlook
Private final consumption spending in Japan is currently at around 291 trillion yen a year*1. Of that figure, the amount accounted for by credit card payments is no more than 35 trillion yen*2. Payments in the public sector, which is yet to introduce a credit card payment option, are estimated to be worth between 20 trillion yen and 50 trillion yen. We expect the introduction of credit card payment in this field to further expand the credit card market, improve efficiency in the public sector and be more convenient for the user. GMO Payment Gateway strives to continue expanding credit card payment processing services.
