Landrush Phase Opens for .Me
Tokyo – June 9, 2008 – GMO Internet official ICANN * domain registrar, Onamae.com began accepting Landrush (general advance) applications for the .me domain today at 12:00pm.
*ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers):
American non-profit organization responsible for the global management of Internet domain names and IP addresses. It also holds the authority to designate official domain registration companies.
The .me Domain
The .me domain is the ccTLD (country code Top Level Domain) for Montenegro.
The domain used in Montenegro has until now generally been that of the former Yugoslavia (.yu). However this domain will be suspended from September 2009 following the introduction of a new .me domain for Montenegro.
Many ccTLDs require an organization or individual to be located within the country to register a domain. However there are no special requirements attached to the .me domain so applications will also accepted from outside Montenegro.
Like the popular ccTLD, .tv that is associated with television, the domain .me which may be used to represent the word “me" is expected to become a popular domain, widely registered worldwide.
Landrush (General Advance Application) Phase
Landrush is a general application phase during which no trademark rights or records are required to register a domain. When multiple applications are received for a domain an auction is held between the applicants and registration is awarded to the highest bidder. If only one application is received during this phase, the domain is automatically awarded to that applicant. This is the time to register valuable domains before the first come first served General (Priority) Application phase to prevent product names, catch phrases etc. being registered by a third party.
* Domain names that are expected to be popular will be temporarily held back by the registry and will not be available during the Landrush general application phase. A special "premium auction” is planned for these domains for around September 2008.

How to Apply for a .me Domain
1. Go to the Onamae.com .me Landrush page and check the availability of the domain name you would like to register.
2. If a circle appears next to the .me domain in your search results, click on the domain and click on Register this Domain.
3. Complete the application and submit the application fee.
4. Your .me domain application is now complete.
5. Landrush phase closes.
6. Auctions are held (as required).
7. .me domain registrations are completed.

Open Registration (Priority Registration)
Onamae.com accepts domain applications prior to the opening of general registration and submits the applications as soon as general registration commences. Immediately after the first come first served Regular (Pre) Registration phase opens there will be registration applications being processed all over the world. This means that a domain name that is available at the time of an availability search may end up being registered in the time it takes the customer to complete registration details. Regular (Pre) Registration Priority Application reduces the risk of this occurring.
*Please be aware that if an application for the same domain name was received during the Landrush phase, that application will receive priority.
