GMO DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION Launches Digital Content Protection SaaS Business Solution
Tokyo – July 9, 2008 –GMO DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION, a subsidiary of GMO SYSTEM CONSULTING and provider of the digital content sales service Digital Contents King, today launches the digital content security solution, DDSecure.
DDSecure is an SaaS*1 solution that secures (prevents unauthorized copying etc.) files shared both within a company and between companies.
*1: SaaS (Software as a service): Providing a software application as an online service.

In an age where anyone can upload content onto video sharing sites, the use of video, sound, and other digital files is becoming more prominent in corporate in-house training and internal communications. However few companies are taking adequate measures to secure the information that circulates through file sharing.
Now GMO DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION addresses this need by providing technical protection against unauthorized copying of shared files with the launch of DDSecure for file protection.*2 DDSecure is also available as a DRM function*3 with Digital Contents King. Digital Contents King is an ASP service for digital content sales that has been used to distribute over 10,000 files. The new DDSecure is a business solution developed for in-house information sharing.
When video, sound, PDF or HTML files are shared internally or between companies, DDSecure allows permissions to be attached to the file proscribing conditions such as how many times the file can be viewed, how long it is valid for, or how many times it may be printed (for PDF files). This is an SaaS service so no dedicated server is required, companies need only an Internet connection to operate this service through their web browser.
*2: Under Japanese copyright law it is illegal to circumvent technical protection measures and make a file publicly available.

DDSecure Features
DRM Protection of Files (Encryption)
A license key is required to decrypt files and a pass code may be attached for authentication. This protects against unauthorized viewing by anyone who doesn’t know the pre-set pass code.
Access Condition Settings
The license key can be set to become invalid after a specified date, specified period of time or specified number of times opened. A file can be viewed once a license key has been acquired, however it is possible to restrict the number of times it is open or the length time it is available in order to prevent leakage of important information.
