Onamae.com Announces Global Launch of .me General Registration at Midnight Tomorrow
Tokyo – July 17, 2008 -- GMO Internet official ICANN* domain registrar, Onamae.com announces the global launch of first-come-first-served General Registration for the .me domain at midnight tomorrow night.
*ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers):
American non-profit organization responsible for the global management of Internet domain names and IP addresses. It also holds the authority to designate official domain registration companies.
The .me Domain
The .me domain is the ccTLD (country code Top Level Domain) for Montenegro. The domain is drawing attention in Japan and around the world for the following reasons.
●There are almost no restrictions on registration; registrations are accepted from around the world.
● .me can be used to represent the word “me”.
During the advance registration phases (Sunrise, Landrush) before the opening of general registration it was announced that over 30,000 registration applications were received for unique domains including Click-On.ME, ChatWith.ME, Optimize.ME. When general registration opens worldwide tomorrow another spate of registrations is expected.

The major difference between the current general registration phase for the .me domain and the prior Landrush phase is that general registration operates on a first-come-first-served basis.
During the Landrush phase, when multiple applications were received for registration of the same domain name, an auction was held to determine the registrant. However, when general registrations open, preference will be given to the first applicant and no applications will be accepted once a domain name has been registered. This is the system employed for registration of many of the domains currently available. Under this system it is imperative that domains are registered as early as possible, both of course to secure your preferred domain and to prevent third parties from using your product name, slogans or other related words.
How to Apply for a .me Domain
1. Go to the Onamae.com .me page and check the availability of the domain name you would like to register.
2. If a circle appears next to the .me domain in your search results, click on the domain and click on Register this Domain
3. Complete the application details and submit the application fee
4. Your .me domain registration is now are complete.
