Giving Children a Third Chance to Read a Good Book

Tokyo – September 17, 2008 -- GMO Internet Group company JWord, the company that operates the Japanese keyword search service of the same name, today launches the third cycle of community service project, Give Children the Chance to Read a Good Book. The project is supported by Morning Reading Program.

Give Children the Chance to Read a Good Book

Give Children the Chance to Read a Good Book is a fundraising program that donates books to primary schools throughout Japan. JWord is an Internet search tool that allows users to conduct searches in Japanese directly from their browser. JWord is committed to promoting Japanese language culture and encouraging children to read.
Since the program was launched in February 2007 both the number of donators and interest from elementary schools has grown.

In this third cycle the initiative is no longer a simple click fundraising program, We have adopted a quiz format in an effort to keep the program enjoyable for our long-time supporters.
We will be posting a book themed question on the official site each Tuesday and a Japanese language question each Thursday. Five yen will be donated every time a participant answers a question correctly. The quiz will end when one million yen has been raised and books will be donated to five specially selected elementary schools throughout Japan. The third cycle of Give Children the Chance to Read a Good Book will close when one million yen is raised.

JWord will purchase books according to the number of correctly answered quiz questions, participation costs our supporters nothing. We expect general Internet users, elementary schools and PTA groups to become involved in the program. After funds have been raised we will purchase the books requested by each of the selected schools.
This cycle we have also included an area selection button. Participants can now opt to donate to an elementary school in the prefecture where they went to school, in a prefecture whose schools they wish to support, in a prefecture where their own child is attending school or simply to a prefecture to which they would like to donate books. One elementary school located in the most popular prefecture will be included among the five selected schools.
