GlobalSign Launches New Authentication Services in Partnership with Yahoo! JAPAN
Tokyo - November 17, 2008 – GMO Hosting & Security consolidated subsidiary and digital certificate service provider, GlobalSign, today launches a new set of authentication services in a partnership with Yahoo! JAPAN. The new services were first announced in August this year. GMO Hosting & Security is a GMO Internet Group company.
Background to the Service Launch
The role of a website in business is becoming increasingly diverse. It now serves not only as a portal to the company, but also often as a platform for e-commerce and web-based services.
According to the 2007 E-commerce Market Survey released by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in August this year the e-commerce market showed steady growth in 2007. The BtoB e-commerce market grew 9.3% and was worth over 161 trillion yen, while the BtoC market grew 21.7% to around 5.34 trillion yen.
For businesses what this trend means is that a website’s trustability is now directly tied to the reliability of the business overall. This is an especially important factor for SMEs where brand recognition is low in comparison to major corporations.
GlobalSign and Yahoo! JAPAN are launching new authentication services to increase trust in business web sites with these important needs in mind.
Organization Validation supported by Yahoo! JAPAN
GlobalSign, a trusted third party verifies the authenticity of the company or individual operating a website in accordance with service guidelines, using data from sources including registers and the Teikoku Databank.
Until now individuals not affiliated with an organization who are seeking authentication services have generally opted domain verification SSL. However, domain verification SSL verifies only the domain name, it does not offer verification of information about the individual. This meant that SOHO businesses and sole proprietorships were left without verification of information about management of their sites.
Our new organization verification service, available to these businesses, opens up a new market for authentication services.
Highly Trusted Site Seal
The easy to recognize clickable site seal is a sign of trust. When site visitors click on the seal a profile page displays information about the company and other verified items. In addition, FLASH animation makes it difficult to copy the image and JavaScript ensures it will not display at a domain other than the verified site.
Listing on Yahoo! JAPAN
Organization verification services also include a listing of the verified company's URL and a link to their website on the Yahoo! JAPAN business portal, Yahoo Business Center. This feature provides a connection with Yahoo! JAPAN and offers the appeal of a listing on a trusted Yahoo! JAPAN website. (Companies are also listed on the GlobalSign web site.)
