Onamae.com Accepting Early Applications for Landrush Registration of .tel
Tokyo – January 22, 2009 – GMO Internet official ICANN*1 domain registrar，Onamae.com, yesterday began accepting early applications for Landrush*2 (advance domain registration) registration of .tel domain names.
The .tel domain is a new type of sponsored top level domain (sTLD)*3 that can be used to acquire and store contact details. Individuals and companies that register a .tel domain can make basic contact details (phone number, fax number, e-mail address) available online and access worldwide contact details anywhere, anytime in an online address book.
.tel Domain Features
The .tel domain is different to regular domains like .com and .net. This domain will be used exclusively for publishing contact details.
1. No Need for a Server or Web Site: Easy Sharing of Contact Information
Business and individual contact details (phone number, fax number, email address, address, URL etc.) are published on a dedicated .tel site by the Telnic registry*4, so there is no need for a server or to build a web site.
No knowledge of web design is necessary as each domain is managed from a simple online administration screen.
2. Up to Date Information All the Time
Contact details are managed online and can be updated in real time.
3. Accessible from Mobile Devices
Sites at .tel domains can be accessed by mobile phone or PDA as well as by computer. Access (your domain name).tel to get basic contact details and save time and money with faster searches and reduced communications fees.
Notes regarding Use of .tel Domain
- The .tel domain can not be used to operate a web site.
- It is not possible to change the DNS information of a .tel domain.
About the .tel Domain Rollout
Prior to the February 4 (Japan time) opening of the Landrush advance registration phase, Onamae.com will be accepting early applications beginning January 21. Landrush (advance) registration of the .tel domain works on a first-come-first-served basis so we recommend that customers who are considering registering a domain during landrush apply in the early application phase. During landrush three-year registrations are made available at premium price. .
