GMO Payment Gateway Becomes PCI SSC Participating Organization
Tokyo – March 11, 2009 – GMO Internet Group remote credit card payment processing company, GMO Payment Gateway (TSE 3769) announces that on March 2 it became a participating organization (PO) in PCI SSC*1, the organization responsible for payment card data industry global security standards (PCI DSS*2). On March 4 the company became an official member of PCI SSC PO Japan.
Background
In the US it is fast becoming essential for all companies that handle credit card data to comply with PCI DSS. In Japan, like the US, the industry faces important security challenges such as prevnting the leakage of credit card details, however it lags in the understanding and application of PCI SSC standards including PCI DSS and PCI PED (PIN Entry Devices) with which POS vendors should be compliant. It is essential that understanding of these issues be promoted in the domestic payment card industry.
PCI SSC PO Japan comprises card merchants, financial institutions, service providers, POS vendors and a wide range of industries that require knowledge of PCI DSS and other information security standards. The organization actively seeks to protect credit card data through information exchange and technology sharing.
GMO Payment Gateway endorses these initiatives and has become a participating organization in PCI SSC and PCI SSC PO Japan.
GMO-PG Initiatives
As a participating organization in PCI SSC, through networking and discourse with member organizations, international payment card brands, QSA (Qualified Security Assessors), and credit industry organizations, GMO Payment Gateway will strengthen its commitment to the secure protection of credit card data.
Beyond the payment card industry PCI DSS are considered data security best practice in government, educational institutions, and business. Through PCI SSC PO Japan activities, GMO Payment Gateway will apply the standards in conjunction with ISMS and other information security management standards.

1. To vote for Participating Organization representatives on the PCI SSC Board of Advisors.
2. To nominate a representative to stand for election to the PCI SSC Board of Advisors.
3. To comment on drafts of all revisions to the DSS specification, and on any new specifications, prior to public release.
4. To attend any annual Standards Community Meeting to be hosted by PCI SSC.
5. To recommend new initiatives for consideration to PCI SSC.
