GMO Payment Gateway Offers Customer Information Manager at One Tenth of Regular Price in Campaign Targeting Fraud Prevention
Tokyo – August 17, 2009 – GMO Internet Group non-face-to-face credit card payment processing company, GMO Payment Gateway announces the launch today of a campaign offering transfer to a Customer Information Manager (CIM) service. The offer, running through to the end of September, is being made available in light of a recent spate of security breaches involving customer data.
Aimed at merchants currently storing customer credit card information on their own systems, the campaign offers transfer to a CIM service (a sophisticated credit card payment processing service that does not require customers to store their own customer data) for the prevention of information leakage. During the campaign, merchants will pay only a 50,000 yen set-up fee, one-tenth of the regular price (500,000 yen). At the same time we are offering up to 1 million yen to companies that offer system construction solutions to transferring merchants under our Partner Finance Program.
Outline
The growth of the online shopping and ecommerce industry has resulted in heightened demand for a secure online credit card use environment. It has become essential for merchants operating ecommerce sites not only to strengthen internal systems but to safeguard against unauthorized external access. Last year GMO Payment Gateway introduced a CIM service for recurring payments and other advanced credit card payment processing services. The service allows ecommerce site operators to store credit card information on GMO-PG systems instead of their own server. Because the merchant does not hold any customer credit card information, there is no risk of security breach or information leakage.
However, there are many ecommerce sites still not taking advantage of CIM services and in the last year there have been many incidences of customer credit card information leakages from businesses and other organizations. GMO-PG is committed to providing consumers with secure online credit card payment services and promoting construction of safe ecommerce sites. For this reason we have decided to offer our PG Multi Payment Service (of which CIM is a standard feature) with a set-up cost of just one tenth of the regular price.
Through the campaign GMO-PG strives to increase awareness of ecommerce site security among merchants, expand our simple and safe payment processing infrastructure, and advance trust in online payment processing.
PG Multi Payment Service is a SaaS service that processes multiple payment methods (credit card, electronic money etc.) using a single payment gateway. With free 3-D Secure (*1) and Card Security Code (*2), not only does the service provide storage of credit card data, it also prevents credit card fraud. Transfer to the PG Multi Payment Service is required to take advantage of the current campaign.
Going forward we will be adding further fraud prevention options to the PG Multi Payment Service.
The campaign also includes our Partner Finance Program that supports developers who build system solutions for merchants transferring to CIM services.
(*1) The 3-D Secure protocol is an additional layer of authentication for online payments. It allows users to make online credit card payments without entering their credit card number and expiration date with an Internet-use only ID and password issued by the card company.
(*2) A Card Security Code (CSS) is a three digit number affixed to the end of the credit card number printed on the back of Visa, MasterCard, JCB, and Diners Club cards, or a four digit number on the front of other cards. The code verifies that the customer has the card in their possession.
