GMO Payment Gateway to Become First Payment Processing Company to Link to Mobile Credit Service iD™
- GMO Payment Gateway
Tokyo – March 29, 2007 – GMO Payment Gateway (GMO-PG), the GMO Internet Group remote credit card payment processing business will link up its credit card payment processing system with the NTT DoCoMo system on April 2 enabling it to handle the NTT DoCoMo Osaifu-Keitai credit service function, iD. GMO-PG will now be able to provide iD online payment processing services to e-commerce business operators using GMO-PG services.
iD Online Payment Processing
NTT DoCoMo introduced the new credit service function, iD to the mobile phone wallet service, Osaifu-Keitai in December 2005 and it now has over 2 million users. Osaifu-Keitai itself has 20 million users (March 8, 2007).
This is not a prepaid electronic money system but a credit service that the customer can use for shopping and cashing up to a specified credit limit.
As well as payments made by waving an Osaifu-Keitai in front of one of the terminals set up in NTT DoCoMo stores, we will now be able to handle iD transactions on i-mode shopping sites, regular online stores and mail order catalogs using the iD online payment processing service. E-commerce business operators can of course use the system for low-priced products but it is an ideal, risk-free payment processing method for higher priced items on which customers don’t generally use prepaid electronic money.
The New Link Up to iD Online Payment Processing
In order to handle iD online payment processing, GMO-PG will be linking its system to the NTT DoCoMo payment processing system enabling our e-commerce customers to accept iD payments. GMO-PG provides credit card payment processing infrastructure to approximately 20,000 e-commerce business operators and we aim to have 1,000 sites accepting iD credit by March 2008.
In the GMO Internet Group, iD online processing will also be introduced for the online shop construction ASP service MakeShop. Four thousand online MakeShop stores will be able to implement iD payment processing for online shopping via PC or mobile.
Outside the GMO Internet Group, CA Mobile Ltd, a company that has developed many mobile phone shopping sites and the mobile phone site of the Kadokawa Group Cineplex are also implementing the iD service.
Features of iD Payment Processing
1. At iD affiliate sites the iD appli reads the credit card number instead of the user entering it manually, a safe and easy payment method that prevents electronic theft and fraud.
2. When a transaction at a store exceeds a specified amount the user enters a PIN to complete the transaction.
3. The user can also make iD payments by using their mobile phone to read the barcodes that appear on mobile phone shopping sites, computers and in magazines.
GMO Payment Gateway
GMO PG provides credit card payment processing services for recurring payments such as CATV and NHK fees as well as online shopping and other remote payments.
