GMO Hosting & Security to Offer Free Emergency Malware Testing to all Websites Hosted on iSLE and RapidSite Servers
- GMO Hosting & Security, Inc.
Tokyo – January 12, 2010 – GMO Internet Group company, GMO Hosting & Security today announced that it will offer free WebAlert emergency malware(*1) screening and detection to all 35,000 websites hosted on iSLE and RapidSite servers.
On December 24, 2009 we screened 6,000 websites using WebAlert. However, following the Gumblar virus outbreak and a sharp increase in malware infection over the new year period, GMO-HS will conduct another screening this time targeting all iSLE and RapidSite customer websites.
At the same time, in order to help our customers protect their websites against malware infection, GMO-HS announces a special campaign offering cash back on set up fees and the first month’s usage fees to all customers who sign up for a new WebAlert plan.
(*1) Malware: Malicious software including computer viruses, worms, and spyware. Incidences of files and confidential data stolen from end users’ computers, fraudulent use of websites, and other damage caused by malware is increasing every year.
Hosting service servers generally have solid security structures that are not easily infiltrated by malware. For this reason malware attacks are often targeted at computers operated by website creators and administrators, or exploit known vulnerabilities in programs contained within a website. Corporate websites infected by malware risk passing on the infection to site visitors. It is essential that companies put in place measures to prevent such attacks to avoid potentially serious damage to customer trust. GMO-HS launched the WebAlert malware detection and notification service in April last year helping customers address the threat of malicious software.
