GlobalSign Expands OneClick SSL
SSL provisioning completely integrated into hosting control panel software for the first time
Tokyo – March 31, 2010 – GMO Hosting & Security subsidiary and digital certificate services specialist GlobalSign is expanding its OneClick SSL technology through partnerships with hosting software developers in North America and Europe. Canadian company, Hosting Controller, Inc. is the latest developer to incorporate OneClick SSL into its hosting control panel software. We expect that making OneClick SSL available through the hosting control panel software widely used in North America and Europe will result in a rise in the number of end users choosing GlobalSign SSL certificates.
OneClick SSL
The GlobalSign OneClick SSL API was launched in February 2008 allowing hosting companies to automate the reselling of GlobalSign SSL certificates through a platform integrated into their control panel system. Installing an SSL certificate is a tedious and technically complex process that requires the server administrator to generate a CSR, receive an email to verify the domain name, receive the SSL certificate and then install it onto the web server. OneClick SSL simplifies this process.
North America and European Markets
OneClick SSL (Ver. 2) for hosting control panel software
In order to offer their customers OneClick SSL, hosting companies need to integrate the OneClick SSL API into their data center management systems. However, unlike Japan where hosting companies generally develop their own management systems, many hosts in North America and the US use third-party developed hosting control panel software. This is more difficult for hosting providers to achieve and has been a hurdle to the expansion of OneClick SSL in other countries.
GlobalSign has developed a OneClick SSL module for hosting service software vendors allowing them to create control panel plug-ins that offer their users an integrated and automated SSL reselling solution and provide the end user with easy and convenient access to SSL certificates. (OneClick SSL ver. 2). GlobalSign is the only brand in the world to offer a digital certificate issue service completely integrated with hosting control panel software.
Outlook
Going forward, GlobalSign will continue seeking to develop partnerships with hosting software developers, promoting OneClick SSL ver 2 and providing greater access to automated SSL provisioning for more hosting companies As a result we believe we can expect more end users to opt for GlobalSign SSL certificates.
Reference: SSL Certificate Installation and OneClick SSL
Installing an SSL certificate on a web server is a time-consuming process requiring the following four steps.
1. Generation of a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) for the web server (key generation)
2. Submission of an application to the Certificate Authority
3. Preparation and submission of documents required in the vetting process
4. Receipt and installation onto the web server.
Domain SSL offers SSL encryption only and requires no paperwork or company documents to be submitted so that the application process is significantly faster. This kind of certificate is convenient and easy to apply for and therefore growth in Domain SSL issues is outpacing that of other certificate types.
However, while step 3 is omitted in the above process, Domain SSL application still require steps 1, 2 and 4. GlobalSign recognized that this was a time-consuming process and sought to develop technology that would reduce the procedure to a single step. The result was an API that would connect web servers to the GlobalSign server, and unique certification technology (patent no. 4128610) that succeeded in integrating the above four steps and creating a one-click process. This is OneClick SSL, an SSL application and installation process that is significantly simplified without sacrificing security.
