GlobalSign Announces Google Chrome™ Support for Managed PKI Lite Solution
Tokyo – January 13, 2011 – GMO Hosting & Security subsidiary, and digital certificate specialist GlobalSign leads the industry with its announcement today that hosted in-house Certificate Authority solution for enterprise, Managed PKI Lite has introduced support for Google Chrome. Managed PKI Lite users can now apply for and acquire client certificates through any of the major web browsers Internet Explorer®, Firefox® and Google Chrome.
About Support for Google Chrome
Service users rely on their web browsers to apply for and acquire digital certificates, and until now GlobalSign has supported the widely used Internet Explorer and Firefox for these purposes. However, recognizing rapid growth in the use of Google's Chrome browser, GlobalSign has now enabled its use by Managed PKI Lite customers for client certificate application and acquisition. Technical support managers can expect less time taken up with browser compatibility inquiries as more users are able to apply for certificates in their everyday web browser.
About Managed PKI Lite
In order to protect against risks such as the leakage of private customer information, enterprises today use high security client certificates to secure access to information systems. Client certificates enable access authentication, as well as digital signing and encryption of mail. Managed PKI Lite is a low cost hosted in-house certificate authority solution that enables client certificate issue and management without requiring any technical knowledge. Available for as few as 10 licenses, Managed PKI Lite is ideal for SMEs.
*Compatible browser versions: Google Chrome 7.x and above, Internet Explorer 6.x and above, Firefox 2.x and above
*Client Certificate: A type of digital ID like an SSL certificate. While an SSL certificate verifies the identifying information on a web server, client certificates verify the identity of the client (computer or individual). Can be used in digital signatures, encryption, and certification.
Google Chrome
Launched in December 2008, first on the Windows Platform, and later in 2010 for Mac and Linux, Google Chrome now holds the third largest share of the global web browser market behind Internet Explorer and Firefox. (Source NetApplications 12/2010).
