Otsu City Chooses GMO Payment Gateway Payment Processing Services
Tokyo – November 1, 2011 – GMO Internet Group company and card not present payment processing provider, GMO Payment Gateway announces today that is has been selected by Otsu city (Shiga prefecture, Japan) to provide credit card payment processing services for water and gas utility payments as of the January 2012 billing period.
Background
In the card-not-present credit card payment processing market today, we are seeing consumer demand for a greater diversity of payment options, and wider adoption of credit card payment processing services among government agencies i-Japan Strategy 2015 continues to be promoted*1. The industry has expanded beyond ecommerce to include electricity, gas and NHK license fee payment processing. Since the Local Government Act was revised in 2006 allowing municipal bodies to accept credit card payments, a credit card payment option is increasingly being made available for public sector services.
As of January 2012, Otsu city residents too will be able to begin paying water and gas bills by credit card. Otsu city has chosen GMO PG Public Sector Payment Processing service to provide credit card payments processing services.

The GMO Payment Gateway Public Sector Credit Card Payment Processing Service has been adopted by the Japan Pension Service, Tokyo and Osaka City municipal governments and many other local governments throughout Japan.
